2022 125cc Cup Triple Crown | Round 1 - Queensland Moto Park
Round 1 - MXstore 125 Cup Triple Crown:
The MXstore crew headed west to Queensland Moto Park just outside of Beaudesert QLD, around 1.5 hours from our headquarters in Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast. The entire team was excited to hold the very first round of the series after the initial date for round 1 was postponed due to the devastating floods in late February/early March. Nerves were high on the drive out in the pouring rain and arriving to a wet campground, however, this didn't dampen anyone's mood because we all know rain is the best watering system any track could ask for. Thankfully the rain cleared by 6 pm, leaving a perfectly prepped and watered track for the riders to arrive and rip on in the morning!
QMP's - Natural Terrain:
For those who have or haven't ridden at QMP, they have a variety of tracks on offer and for round 1 it was a perfect fit to be able to race 125's on QMP's Natural Terrain MX Track! This track has natural hills, flowing corners, fast straightaways and plenty of opportunities to hold these little 125's wide open. The rain from Friday afternoon and morning track prep left all riders with what we like to call "moist chocolate cake" conditions for racing. We can almost guarantee those who weren't riding wished they were with pristine track conditions and weather. On top of this, QMP was still open to the public with its remaining tracks open and the Natural Terrain Track re-opening once racing finished at 12 pm. GRAB YOUR PICTURES HERE
Raceday:
Practice kicked off with the Clubman class at 8 am followed by the Pro class, both classes getting 15 mins each to identify the fast lines and fine-tune their rides ready for racing at 9 am. Clubman racing began first with each race consisting of 6 laps. Joel Carmichael grabbed the holeshot in race one and took out the win with Luke Beechey in second and Stephen Burge in third for race one. Next up was race one for the Pro class consisting of 8 laps which certainly put some of the has-beens to the test. MXstore's MicMac grabbed the holeshot onboard his one of a kind CR125, unfortunately, Mic went down on a slippery section of the track and ended up finishing in sixth. Luke (Prong) Davis all the way from Western Australia took out the win coming through the pack, followed by Elijah Weise from South Australia and Noah Moskwa in third.
Clubman race 2 was underway with ATVstore's Luke Beechey grabbing the holeshot and taking the win with race one winner Joel Carmichael going down in the chase, however made his way back up to third leaving Shannon Carmichael with second. The last race of the day was the Pro class with MXstore's Blake Cobbin grabbing a huge holeshot, Cobbin was out to an impressive lead however race one winner Luke Davis chased him down to grab the win with Cobbin finishing in a close second and Elijah Wiese in third.
Clubman Class Overall: 1st - Luke Beechey | 2nd - Joel Carmichael | 3rd Shannon Carmichael
Pro Class Overall: 1st - Luke Davis | 2nd Elijah Wiese | 3rd Blake Cobbin
What a hit:
The first MXstore 125 Cup Triple Crown race ever was a banger, with some great feedback from riders and industry partners. This event is the reason we ride, the reason we all love the sport and the reason we do what we do. Everything that was received in sponsorship was given back to the riders, with the intention to help grow the sport and support the industry. If you missed out on Round 1, don't forget we have 2 more rounds, so get your 125's out, grab that pre-mix and we will see you there. ENTER UPCOMING ROUNDS HERE!
A big thank you to everyone involved that helped make this possible:
