2024 Classic Weekend Wrapped
The warm winter sun blessed riders and organisers alike at this year’s Ballard's Offroad Conondale Classic Weekend, presented by Rat Racing at Green Park Conondale Queensland. Over 6,000 people made their way to Green Park throughtout the 3 day vintage dirt bike festival on 7-9 of June, with a sell-out capacity of 500 riders who cut laps around the pristine tracks prepared by the Sunshine’s Coast Motorcycle club volunteers.

Dirtlab Show N Shine was once again a massive attraction with over 95 bikes entered. The attention to detail and craftsmanship in these builds is a testament to everyone’s love and dedication for Pre-95 dirt bikes, from incredible Huskys, to rare Yamahas, Hondas, and even Paul Smith's Ansoletti.
Grant O'Brien Editor of Dirt Action Magazine rode the Yamaha 1991 TT250 and said “You just have to ride to the bike’s 30 year old ability. It’s an affordable bike to ride for this classic event and it was so fun. From flowing through the vinduro trails and learning what it can and can't do to find the comfort zone. It was a great project to have a budget bike and still have so much fun on a bike shared with a bunch of mates for the Classic Weekend.”
This year’s focus was community support and fun, event hosts and custodians of Green Park are a group of dedicated club members and volunteers of the Sunshine Coast Motorcycle Club. Over one hundred team members assist in the preparation, running, and breakdown of the venue, without these people the riding community would not have such a fantastic venue to enjoy and ride. Peter Bell SCMCC Secretary, “The Classic Weekend is our premier event of the year. This event provides the club with opportunities and funding to re-invest back into the park so that the club can continue to provide the best facilities and tracks possible, along with infrastructure upgrades.”
“The club is proud to associate with the local Conondale P&C, who benefit hugely with canteen profits injected into the local school. Beyond that, the local businesses also benefit, over $7 million dollars is injected annually into regional businesses from all the out of town attendees buying supplies, food, fuel, and utilising local motels. It is pleasing to see everyone enjoy themselves here, we feel extremely lucky to care for such a unique property in the best part of the world” said Peter Dobe SCMCC Treasurer.
This year’s major raffle prize was a fully restored Honda 1994 XR250R that club volunteers Noel Schulz and Mark Barnes spent countless hours repairing and fitting new products and parts donated by the event sponsor’s to make it one of the most incredible prizes anyone could ever win. The raffle bike was won by first time Classic Weekend rider Paul Watson from the Gold Coast.
In addition to the raffle bike there were over 30 prizes drawn and awarded in-between the epic live band 'Eighties Recall' which kept the crowd entertained into the night, thanks to the awesome sponsors Pirelli, Motul, Heatwave, Tool Kit Depot, and Ballard's Offroad.
As part of Stephen Gall’s Motocross of Nations fundraising efforts so we can get Team Australia over to Matterley Basin in England this October, Stephen organised a range of fantastic memorabilia to auction off by infamous auctioneer Robbie Warden. A total of $6,000 was raised for the team and one lucky bidder took home a signed Hunter and Jett Lawrence Team Australia hat for $2,300!
Riders remained safe with no major accidents, a testament to the well prepared tracks and recreational nature of the event. Riders are encouraged to get involved with the SCMCC and sign up as a member today. We look forward to seeing everyone for next year’s Classic Weekend on June 6-8 2025!
