2022 Australian Supercross Championship | Round 2 Adelaide
Round 2 - Adelaide
The second round of the 2022 Australian Supercross brought to you by Fox Racing landed in Adelaide South Australia where we were greeted with great weather, excited fans, and a track that would provide some great racing. In the MX1 class, Justin Brayton has the series points lead with CDR’s Aaron Tanti looking to assert himself as a title threat. In SX2 you have Max Anstie leading the points with Genuine Honda teammate Wilson Todd looking to rebound and Serco’s Cole Thompson wanting better starts to give Anstie a run to the checkers. We are excited to see the SX3 class hitting the track for the first time this season which is a great addition to the format and ultimately more racing action!
Qualifying
SX3 - JCR Yamaha sent over 15-year-old Cole Davies with his coach Ben Townley from New Zealand. The youngster pulled it off by being the fastest qualifier in the SX3 class with guidance from BT.
SX2 - Genuine Honda's Wilson Todd was the fastest of the field with some aggressive laps thrown down, KTM’s Nathan Crawford was second fastest with Rhys Budd third. Points leader Max Anstie found himself fourth while Serco Yamaha’s Cole Thompson was fifth.
SX1 - Four Time Australian Supercross champion Justin Brayton wasted no time letting the boys know he was ready to battle setting the fastest qualifying time ahead of Matt Moss in second, CDR Yamaha's Aaron Tanti in third, Empire Kawasaki’s Jackson Richardson fourth, and Husqvarna's Dylan Wills in fifth.
Racing
SX3
The SX3 class was split across three different motos where New Zealand's JCR Yamaha rider Cole Davies would dominate the first two motos going 1-1. However, in the third and final moto, Cole Davies would be blown off the track by KTM’s Conor Towill! Cole would remount riding a smart and calculated comeback to assure himself the overall with a 1-1-6 moto score. Jack Mather and Myles Gilmore would have a great battle out front in the third moto landing them on the final podium.
SX2
Nathan Crawford and Max Anstie came away from Heat 1 and 2 with wins setting the tone for the Main Event. The Gate dropped in the Main with Queenslander Wilson Todd sprinting out getting the holeshot and attempting to run away from GasGas’s Noah Ferguson and team-mate Max Anstie. Early on it looked like Wilson Todd had run away but veteran Max Anstie got on a roll making his move on Noah Ferguson and setting his sights on Wilson Todd. With five laps to go, Anstie was adapting to the track and made his move on Todd taking the lead and not looking back. Wilson Todd crossed the line behind Anstie with Ferguson rounding out the podium. Nathan Crawford and Rhys Budd had to work from the back and never really saw the lead pack having to settle for fourth and fifth while Jace Cosford, Cole Thompson, Jaxon Hadlow, Gage Linville, and Jai Constantinou rounded out the top 10. Get well wishes go to Jy Roberts who went down hard in the whoops breaking his arm. After Round 2 it’s clear Anstie has a handle on this series and the others are looking to find some consistency amongst the podium to keep Anstie honest for the remainder of the series.
SX1
Fan favourite Jackson Richardson found himself out front and won the heat race after BBR 102 motorsports Matt Moss made a costly error before the whoops where he stalled his bike. In Heat 2 Brayton would snap a holeshot and lead series rival Aaron Tanti to the checkers setting the stage for an all-out battle in the Main Event. The gate dropped for the SX1 Main Event, and it was Matt Moss who slingshotted his way to the front of the pack but as they entered the whoops Justin Brayton would make a run at Moss where he would put a great block pass on Moss all while not realising Tanti was setting up a two for one in the turn exiting the whoops. The crowd went wild as Tanti made
the move on both Moss and Brayton. Tanti crossed the finish on Lap 1 with Brayton behind and it’s what we all wanted to see. The Aussie vs the American champion. Lap after lap Tanti would manage a small gap over Brayton while there were some heated battles going on behind him. With a bad start, Josh Hill would charge through the pack making some great passes on the likes of Dylan Wills where he would then set his sights on Moss. Moss was in no man’s land with Tanti and Brayton out front and as the laps counted down Tanit was gapping Brayton and with one lap to go, it was clear CDR Yamaha’s Aaron Tanti was going to get his first SX1 Supercross win! Josh Hill made the move on Moss for third all while the candles were lit as Tanti crosses the line and he did it! Tanti wins round 2 of the 2022 Fox racing Australian Supercross series ahead of Justin Brayton, Josh Hill, Matt Moss, Kyle Webster, Husqvarna’s Dylan Wills, GasGas’s Hayden Melross, Jackson Richardson, Dylan Wood, and Cory Watts rounded out the top 10 for an epic night of racing in a packed house in Adelaide, South Australia.
