How to bleed your dirt bike brakes
If your brakes feel soft and spongey, then it's likely they need to be bled. Bleeding brakes is a regular bit of maintenance that every motocross and enduro rider will need to undertake, and it's always important to ensure your brakes are in the best working order possible.
Step 1: The first step is to remove the cap on the brake fluid reservoir, which is located on the handlebars (front brake) and down near the rear brake pedal (brake pedal). From here, top up the reservoir.
Step 2: Now you’ll want to locate the drainage nipple or nut. Remove the rubber cap before pumping the brake lever 2-3 times, and slowly back off the nipple as you keep pressure on the brake lever.
Step 3: The old fluid will begin to drain as the brake lever pressure drops. Tighten the nipple before letting go of the lever, and continue to top off the brake fluid as you repeat the process of pressing the lever, backing off the nipple and draining the fluid. Keep doing this until you see the new fluid come through.
Ensure you keep topping up the brake reservoir with fluid, otherwise air will get into the lines. If you haven’t completed the process correctly, the brake will still have the same feeling as prior to undertaking the bleeding process.
