2022 Arenacross | Round 1 Bacchus Marsh
Round 1 of the Australian Arenacross - Bacchus Marsh:
The MXstore crew headed south to Bacchus Marsh Victoria, just under 2000k's from our headquarters in Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast. The expectations and excitement were high for the first-ever round of the 2022 Australian Arenacross Series. Unfortunately, it rained all day Friday so the team arrived to a drenched and sloppy pit area on Saturday. Many vehicles were getting bogged but the crew at Protraxx quickly got to work and cleared as much of the water off the track to give it a chance to dry out with practice starting at 9 am!
Big day and night:
With a massive day ahead including carnival rides, food trucks, trade stalls, a pit party, the 8000 spectators were in for a treat! On top of that, there was a total of 370 riders with a huge 18 classes of bar to bar action to come! Practice started and the track was certainly wet however, the weather decided to turn it on bringing in hope for prime track conditions for the night show. The weather threw some challenges at the Arenacross Crew and Protraxx Track Crew but by the time the night show came around the track was ready for a big night of racing. The on-track action and quality trackside entertainment were enjoyed by the whole family on an unexpected crisp night with many fans pulling out their hoodies.
Many riders fought for the MXstore Holeshot award, where $100 was on the line for the Main Events! The off-track action was as good as the on-track action, with many trade stalls in the pit area. For this round, we had our very own activation with some of our latest merch for sale including the latest from Scrambler MX.
Racing:
Racing began, every class had jammed pack action with many riders attempting to work their way through the pack. The racing included big names like multiple Australian champions Matt Moss, Brett Metcalf, Hayden Melross and more! The racing was tight, with track conditions getting faster yet rougher as the night went on. In the AX1 Pro class, Moss and Metcalfe went 2,1 and 1, 2 in the first two motos however, a bad start in moto 3 upset any chances of Metcalfe ending up on top with Moss taking out the AX1 Pro class with a 2,1,1. By the end of the night, there was no sign of any water and even on some sections of the track dust started to appear. The Protraxx crew certainly did an amazing job getting the track in good order making for brilliant, action-packed and safe racing all night long.
