Manjimup 15000 2024
Us East Coasters might not be privy to the goldmine that the West Coast is built upon, but those who are local to the Manjimup area certainly know that they have something good. When I say goldmine, I'm referring to their dirt, the mixture of clay and sand make it elite and perhaps that's why you hear whispers of Manjimup 15000 throughtout the motocross community in Australia and across the world, and why everyone needs to make the trek to ride in Western Australia at least once in their life. Look, it wasn't our first time attending a 15000 but it just never gets old, after a years hiatus Manjimup 15000 was back for 2024 and it delivered as we've grown to expect.
Each year Dirt High Promotions and Willie Thomson rally their forces to put together Australia's biggest motocross race and in doing so bring out more than 500 riders. Cosy Creek has a rich history in Australian motocross with Manjimup 15000 dating back to 1980 and we can't forget the 1992 Motocross des Nations, the only time Australia has hosted a Nations to date. The history and the dirt are enough to bring most avid motocrossers out, but we wanted to hear firsthand why riders come to the middle of nowhere to race Manjimup 15000.
Like I said, it's a bit of a hike to get across to Perth and down to Manjimup, for us it's a 6 hour flight and a 3 hour drive but that's only if you choose not to drive the 4440 km or 50 hours. We're remebering though, that good things come from other parts of Australia too and we want to get out to meet our Western Aussies. So we started brainstorming, what can we do at this event that can play a small role in growing the sport from the grassroot level and make a little guy or gals weekend? We knew some of the big names heading over and that seemed like a good starting point, it's also a plus that we have Australia's largest range of motocross gear, dirt bike parts, and accessories at our fingertips. We brought with us three sets of goggles on our trip to be signed by Dean Wilson, Jed Beaton, and the legend himself Brett Metcalfe, each goggle giveaway went a little differently but we set out to find the perfect recipient, I won't give it away you'll just have to watch the video.
Between watching the racing amoungst the crowds of fans that line the fences with cowbells, air horns, and chainsaws we asked people "why do you want to race Manjimup 15000?", we gave away 60x $100 holeshot vouchers to riders who had their starts dialled over the weekend, and spent some time taking in the full experience of Manjimup 15000, it's certainly an event not to be missed. We'll finish as we started... Marvelling over the dirt, location, and everything that makes Manjimup 15000 exactly that, Manjimup 15000. Don't take my word for it though, just watch the video, or even better yet head out to Manjimup yourself!
