MXstore Tested All New 2025 Honda CRF450R.

We recently headed down to Melbourne to get our hands on the all-new 2025 Honda CRF450R, and let’s just say, this bike has raised the bar. With its updated frame, suspension, and engine tweaks, Honda’s done some serious fine-tuning, making what was already great even better!

Honda took feedback from top riders like Hunter and Jett Lawrence—both of whom have been racking up wins—and used their insights to shape the 2025 CRF450R. The aim? To create a bike that performs at the highest level while still delivering improvements that any rider can appreciate. And they’ve nailed it. Jett Lawrence clinched the SMX championship on the new 2025 model, Hunter Lawrence won his first race aboard it, and even for someone like me, who doesn’t ride a whole lot, the bike felt instantly familiar and comfortable. That’s a real testament to how well these refinements have paid off.

What’s New for 2025?

Honda’s 2025 CRF450R has seen some serious upgrades aimed at enhancing handling, power delivery, and overall rider comfort. Starting with an updated main frame, built with 70% new components, the bike’s rigidity has been improved for better handling, giving riders more control in all conditions. The subframe now has a new mounting point to enhance lateral rigidity and reduce the transfer of energy from the rear to the front, boosting the bike’s stability. Honda also reworked the steering stem, triple clamps, fork tubes, and front axle to match the frame updates, which noticeably improved the front-end feel—something I really noticed compared to my 2022 CRF450R.

The suspension has been updated with new springs, kit-fork-inspired Bending Control Valves, and revised oil and seals, delivering a smooth stroke while minimizing harsh feedback. The shock’s new spring, reservoir, shaft, and oil seal work in sync with the fork for a balanced, predictable ride. Plus, Honda reengineered the linkage for better tracking and bottoming resistance. The new one-piece structure adds rigidity, helping to keep the bike stable.

On the power side, the redesigned airbox and longer header pipe improve airflow and power control, particularly in the low-to-mid rpm range. Revised ECU maps keep the throttle smooth while maintaining plenty of torque. The bodywork has been redesigned, not just for looks but to give the rider a more grippable surface. The front brake calliper has been upgraded with new pistons, seals, and a machined finish for consistent stopping power. For those who like to wrench on their own bikes, Honda’s made it easier by cutting rear-shock removal time in half, eliminating the need to pull off the subframe. These little refinements are what make the 2025 CRF450R so special. Priced at $14,699, this bike won't disappoint.

Testing at Ride Park Vic

At Ride Park in Victoria, we had a freshly prepped track to put the CRF450R through its paces. From the first lap, it was clear that Honda’s suspension and frame upgrades paid off—this bike feels solid, precise, and predictable, no matter how hard we pushed it. With three different engine modes available, we could switch things up on the fly, from the aggressive punch of Mode 3 to the more controlled, rider-friendly Mode 2.

The Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) also deserves a shout-out. It allowed us to adjust rear-wheel traction on the go, which is especially handy in tricky sections where you need to keep the power down without losing grip. It’s those kinds of details that make this bike easy to ride. Whether you’re a racer or just a weekend rider, this bike will fit your needs.
