MXSTORE RIDING TIPS: JUMPING
When you think of riding dirt bikes we all tend to think of Jumping. Jumping adds an exhilarating dimension to dirt bike riding, but mastering the art is crucial for a safe and enjoyable ride. Whether you're navigating a trail or tackling a supercross track, understanding the right and wrong techniques is essential to avoid injury.
THE BASICS
Jumping begins with mastering the basics. Before attempting to Junp, ensure your body positioning and throttle control are spot on. Breaking down the skill into key elements is the best approach to learning. Here are the fundamental areas to focus on:
Approach
The approach is paramount in the jumping process. Vision plays a key role; look far ahead to choose the cleanest approach and take off line. A well-chosen line ensures predictability in the jump. Opt for a smooth trajectory with ample traction to avoid potential mishaps caused by ruts or uneven take-off ramps.
Take-Off
As you hit the up-ramp, being in the right gear and maintaining a steady throttle position (60 to 90%) is crucial. Never cut off the throttle on the up-ramp, as it may lead to the nose dropping. Stand in the attack position with your weight centred on the bike. This take-off stance ensures a safer passage over most obstacles.
Mid-Air
The mid-air phase is an opportunity to relax for many riders. If the approach and take-off are executed correctly, you'll be in full control, flying in a neutral position with both wheels at the same height. Use this time to perform tasks like pulling tear-offs or adjusting clutches. Shifting your body forward or back can change the bike's angle, ensuring a controlled descent.
Landing
Landing is the critical phase. A mistake here could lead to unwelcome stories. As you descend, give the bike some throttle to help the suspension absorb the impact. Your body must also absorb the landing; ensure your arms and legs aren't locked straight to avoid serious injury on larger jumps. Keep your head up looking ahead at the next obstacle and ride the landing smoothly. Mastering these basics will enhance your jumping skills and contribute to a safer and more enjoyable riding experience.
