The Starcross 5 range is 15% lighter than their predecessors, due to an upgrade in materials used in production. This results in a more flexible casing, which means there is an increased size of contact patch while still being able to run higher pressures to minimalise the chances of a puncture. The other benefit of the flexible casing is that Michelin have been able to develop a self cleaning tread technology that helps prevent mud and dirt from building up.
