The Project TT250

MXstore and Dirt Action Magazine teamed up on a project build in preparation for Conondale Classic Weekend [CCW], the build began with a 1991 TT250 that had been sitting in a shed in North Brisbane after its' previous owner never got around to working on it.  The vision was to complete an achievable and affordable bike build that the average Joe Blow could pull off, it would be a vintage bike to be ridden at CCW, and would go on to be known as 'The Town Bike'.  So why name it 'The Town Bike'?  Well the plan is for Grant "Goba" O'Brien (editor from Dirt Action) to take the TT250 out to be ridden at CCW, but from there it will be carted around by the crew at MXstore for anyone and everyone (with MXstore staff approval) to ride.

The old tyres, worn grips, chain, and sprockets were a pretty good indication that the bike hadn't received any TLC for a while.  With the parts at our fingertips, we got working on the TT250, our to do list looked a little like this:

We enlisted Raceline Performance in Burleigh to help get the job done and Jayden Coker jumped on the tools. After completing a thorough check over the bike, Jayden got stuck into working on the TT to get it looking and running the best it has in years! He fitted a new spark plug, swapped out the air filter, drained the carburetor for inspection, and checked the fork seals and rear shock, the bike wasn't too bad as a whole.  Jayden found a couple of things that needed attention, there was a build-up of rust in the rear brake drum but he spent some time getting the rear hub back to working order, the oil drain plug was seized and destroyed so we'll have to find a solution for that, the throttle tube had snapped off at some point and couldn't be reused but we sourced a new one from Yamaha, and the spoke nipples were also seized but that only took some penetrating lube and they loosened up so the spokes could be tightened.

With just a few things to finish on our bike build we're getting excited for Conondale Classic Weekend and you should be too.  Remember this event is for pre-1995 bikes, so it's time to dust off those vintage bikes or crack into a new build, you've got until the 7th - 9th of June 2024 when you head out to Green Park Conondale. This weekend is all about having fun and enjoying everything two-wheels with camping, riding, a swap meet, and show 'n' shine, but that's only scraping the surface!  Head over to https://linktr.ee/classicweekend to grab your tickets.  Make sure to shop all those bike parts and retro gear (trust me it's all in the fun of the event) now so you aren't left scrambling to get ready at the last minute!
